Andrew's training is back by popular demand!
We’re delighted that Andrew Deighton, who has delivered various successful training workshops for us already, is back by popular demand - returning to host a number of our ever popular Training and Tea sessions in the coming months.
The topics have been voted for by our wonderful community groups, which means we are delivering the training that is most important to them – something we are extremely committed to here at Community Chesterfield! These topics include Change Management, Engagement and Communication and Presentation Skills.
We talked to Andrew about his work facilitating training for us and his wider role running his training company, AWD Development Solutions.
“I began delivering Training and Tea sessions for Community Chesterfield in November 2020. Since then I’ve delivered 11 different events and in July I’m delighted to be starting a series of six more. The initial topics were suggested by the community groups and the sessions I’m repeating have also been chosen by groups too. This means that we’re providing training on the areas that really matter to those who need it.
“Each session is focused on one particular subject and they run for 45 minutes. I introduce the participants to some specific tools and techniques, allow some time for questions and then send everyone a summary handout after the event. Topics have ranged from specific skills such as presenting or facilitating, through managing effective remote meetings or difficult conversations, to broader areas like managing change and leading remote teams. However, I try to make sure that the content can be used in both ‘remote’ situations as well as when you’re back working physically located with people.
“The sessions have been really popular and the feedback has been fantastic. I think that’s because they’re very focused, time efficient and always end when we say they will! People can then get on with the rest of their day.
“I set up my AWD Development Solutions seven years ago after a 26-year career at Rolls-Royce. I wanted to focus on the things I enjoyed doing, which is developing people and teams, rather than the things I had to do in corporate life.
“Until March 2020, all my work was delivered face-to-face in conference rooms. Obviously that came to a sudden stop and I had to adapt and start to deliver my sessions online using Zoom. This has been a great move as it saves travel time and cost. I do miss the direct face-to-face interaction, but I think that a combination of virtual and physical training approaches is the way forward.
“Community Chesterfield are a great team to work with. They’re so dedicated to providing the best possible service to the Community Groups they support. I’m really looking forward to delivering the next series of Training and Tea events and I hope to continue working with them and their clients in the future.”
The first of Andrew’s Training and Tea sessions, Change Management, will take place on 7 July at 9am until 9.45am. The rest will be held during July, August and September.
Visit our training page here for more information and to find out about how to book your free place.
The sessions are open and free to anyone working at or volunteering for a Derbyshire-based a ‘not for profit’ organisation that helps people in Chesterfield, as well as students and staff from the University of Derby who live, work in or care about Chesterfield.
