Online safety – do you know the risks of using the internet?
As a community led organisation, we listen to what the local voluntary sector groups we work with want to see from our training and understand how these topics can be of benefit to them.
Internet safety and the risks associated with having a presence online is something that everyone who uses the internet should be aware of. With the number of internet users continuing to grow daily, it’s vital that people are equipped with the knowledge to become safer online and understand fraudulent activity and cybercrime.
That’s why we’re pleased to be running a CyberAware training workshop with Samantha Hancock, cyber protect officer for Derbyshire Constabulary, who supports businesses and communities across Derbyshire with online safety.
Sam has undertaken a number of courses in the Cyber field, and also holds CISMP (Certificate in Information Security Management Principles). She also has a wide experience of public engagement, running workshops and training, and experience in the use of using social media, networks and traditional media in order to push out messages and guidance to help all of our communities.
Those providing services and supporting local communities may be especially vulnerable to fraudsters attempting to exploit the current national and global crises to carry out fraud and cybercrime. This means that now, more than ever, charities need to be fraud aware and take steps to protect their money, people and assets from harm.
All of Sam’s sessions are non-tech awareness sessions to warn the public of cybercrime, fraud and scams and aim to reduce the chance of individuals falling victim to these offences. They provide attendees with information about how you can protect yourself online.
This session will cover:
• Device safety/protection
• Password Guidance and account security
• Protecting your Personal Information
• Using social media safely
• Social Engineering and phishing emails/texts
• Online shopping & Online Banking safely
• Keeping youngsters safe online
• Safer Internet Day – Using tech responsibly, respectfully, critically & creatively
• Signposting to further sources of support and resources
• Where to report
The training is free to University of Derby staff and students with a connection to Chesterfield, as well as those working at or volunteering for Derbyshire-based not for profit community organisations helping people in Chesterfield.
